For a photo to be considered an "invasion," it must follow the following general rules:
- The photo must show an object related to the NHL team in question.
- Some network sites specify the object to invade with; if not, anything can be used.
- The object must be reasonably clear and not ambiguous.

- The photo can be anywhere, but the location must be somewhat notable.
- The photo must not be unnecessarily obscene; PG-13 limit.
- other hockey arenas (NHL, AHL, ECHL, WHL, OHL, etc.)
- airports
- city skylines
- subway and metro systems
- historic or important train stations
- significant mountains, lakes, seas, oceans, valleys, etc.
- host stadiums of the Olympics
- UNESCO World Heritage Sites or other historic places
- parts of international borders where security is less of an issue
- World's Fair sites
- significant museums
